Absence/Late Procedures

School day timings

8.35am - drop-off / gates open.

8.45am - gates close.

3.05pm - end / collection.

If your child is sick

If your child is sick or is going to be absent, please notify us by 9.15am at the latest on that day by calling the office on 01202 747381. The office hours are 8.30am to 4pm, answerphone messages can be left outside of these hours. Any absence without notification is counted as ‘unauthorised’, as is late arrival at school from 9.15am onwards.

Coronavirus

Your child should not come to school if s/he, or anyone has Coronavirus symptoms (ie a high temperature OR a persistent cough OR loss of smell or appetite). Please refer to government guidance - about what to do in relation to Coronavirus and attending school.

First Day Contact

Parents are requested to inform the School of reasons for absence on the first day of any absence. At Courthill Infant School, office staff will contact parents by telephone on any day a registered pupil is absent without explanation. It is important that parents keep the office informed of current daily contact numbers. If contact cannot be made, a text message and follow-up letter will be sent.

Where children are registered as “at risk”, Children and Young People’s Social Care will be informed of the absence on the same day. If the Headteacher has any cause for concern about the reason for absence, this will remain unauthorised until these have been discussed with the parents and a satisfactory explanation secured. If the School does not accept the reason given, the absence will remain unauthorised. The intention of the legislation is that, for the absence to be authorised, there must have been no reasonable way in which the child could have managed to come to school.

Sickness

To curb the spread of sickness, you must please keep your child off school for 48 hours following sickness or diarrhoea.

Lateness

Parents who are late should bring their children in to school via the office entrance and sign them in.

Contact Details

Please ensure that we have your telephone number or address where we can contact you in the event of illness or accident to your child. To update your details, please contact the school office on 01202 747381.

Annual Holidays

Holidays during term time do cause disruption to your child's education and lack of attendance can affect performance and standards.  It is not a right to take children on holiday during term time.  In exceptional circumstances the headteacher may authorise permission.  If you want to make a request please print and complete the holiday form and hand it in to the office with an accompanying letter explaining why the holiday must be taken in term time.  Copies are also available from the display board in reception.
