Year 2 P.E Days
At Courthill, we believe children being active is crucial to their mental health and well-being as well as supporting their academic achievements. As a result of this, we ensure that active learning is included in all lessons.
The children will have two P.E lessons a week. We ask that children come into school wearing their school P.E kits on their outdoor PE day.
- In Year 2, outdoor PE will be on Wednesday.
The children do not need to come into school wearing P.E kit on indoor PE days but please ensure they have hair tied back, earrings out and provide shorts for children wearing skirts/dresses on these days. Indoor PE days are as follows:
- Owls and Foxes - Monday
- Badgers and Hedgehogs - Tuesday
On a Friday, it is Fun Fit Friday where the children will take part in additional sporting activities so on these days children can come to school wearing active wear of their choice (no jeans or dresses).

Autumn 1 Updates
To kick off our first topic, the children embarked on an exciting journey “around the world,” visiting China, Italy, Hawaii, and Australia - all from the comfort of the classrooms! This imaginative adventure not only sparked their curiosity about different cultures but also provided a rich context for developing their knowledge of the world we live in. We built on this in our geography lessons where we’ve been exploring the seven continents and five oceans, helping the children build a strong foundation ready to learn about hot and cold countries later in the year.
In English, we have been using the inspiring texts Emmanuel’s Dream and Pinocchio, to recap and refine the children’s sentence writing skills from Year One, focusing on the structure of a sentence, using the conjunction ‘and’ as well as learning about adjectives to create more interesting sentences.
In maths, we’ve been diving into place value and using number bonds to help add numbers by bridging to the next ten. The children have shown great perseverance with this and we will continue to revisit this throughout the year.

Must Reads
At Courthill, we have a selection of books named our ‘Must Reads’. These are books that have been carefully considered and chosen by teaching staff and they are the books that we ensure children are exposed to and enjoy during their time at Courthill. These high-quality texts have been selected to reflect the wonderfully diverse community we have at our school, as well as take the children on a varied reading journey.
Our list of ‘Must Reads’ have been split into each year group to ensure a progressive reading curriculum. Below you will see the books selected for Year Two. By the end of Year Two, all of the children will have heard and enjoyed these books in class, but they may wish to add them to their own collection at home. Re-reading and discussing favourite books is a highly valuable part of the reading experience and something that can also be enjoyed as a family. Happy reading!
